Sustainable development, environmental management & climate change issues are becoming of increasing importance across the maritime sector. Developing appropriate strategic approaches for internal governance and to meet the expectations of external stakeholders (e.g. customers, charterers etc.) is essential.
UMAS can assist the wide range of maritime stakeholders develop appropriate strategic responses in the following areas and ensure that the corporate response is both coordinated and effective. UMAS works with organisations on both short-term and long-term engagements providing advice and support from the start-up of sustainable development, environmental management and climate change strategies through to full maturation.
In addition we can develop internal client capabilities by capacity building through the provision of bespoke training courses (including train the trainer) and on-going mentoring and support.
We focus on three key areas.
Sustainable Development & Corporate Social Responsibility – Development of strategic support to meet internal and stakeholder expectations to the highest corporate and professional standards.
Environmental Management Systems – Development of a systematic approach to the identification and prioritisation of significant environmental aspects and development of internal controls and management programmes to international standards such as ISO14001 and EMAS.
Climate Change Strategy – Support to ensure that the organisation understands the impacts of current and future policy and regulation and has developed robust mechanisms to minimise climate change risks and optimise strategic climate change opportunities.
